A
meson Institutes aim to assist its students in preparing for a global education, while at the same time developing their talents and personalities for long-term personal and professional success.

As part of this objective, we strive to promote an international, intercultural education that contributes to mutual understanding between different cultures.

Professor Cao Yamin is one of the senior advisors for Ameson Institutes. In his words:

“I hope that when the students graduate from Ameson, they could not only be provided with strong academic merits, but also the abilities to contribute to the well-being of the entire world, wherever they will be. And I particularly wish that they could make contributions to the revitalization of Chinese culture."

The revitalization of Chinese culture is another key element of Ameson Institute's philosophy: “We not only prepare our students of studying abroad; we also encourage them to come back to their home country after acquiring knowledge and earning degrees overseas. We hope to cultivate students to become world citizens with Chinese souls”.

Ameson courses

  • 1-year courses: for high school graduates wanting to gain acceptance to a top school overseas.
  • 3-year courses: for students who have already decided that they will pursue an undergraduate degree overseas, and thus prefer to study using an international curriculum taught by foreign experts.
  • Philosophy: courses are crafted to blend international education standards and Chinese characteristics.
Ameson’s Advanced Placement programs especially encourage self-regulated learning. A strong contrast to the traditional passive Chinese learning style, our courses encourage students to learn actively through individual research, extracurricular academic activities, and regular consulations with both Chinese and foreign teachers. Chinese language courses are mandatory units in our programs for the students to absorb the essence of Chinese culture.

Cultural exchange programs

Ameson provides myriad opportunities for our students to attend guest lectures and talks from elite universities world-wide. For instance, vice-chancellors and directors for undergraduate admissions from more than twenty universities have taken part in the Ameson Chinese Elite program. At the third Ameson Chinese Elite program, we organized talks given by experts from some of most prestigious universities worldwide, including: the University of Cambridge, UCLA, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, University of Melbourne, etc.

In addition, we also work with experts from elite universities in China, such as scholars from Chinese Academy of Engineering; the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Tsinghua University; Nanjing University, etc.

Our students

Student numbers are limited in all Ameson programs, and the selection process is highly-competitive. Typically, those admitted have a strong academic background, and strong leadership tendencies as well.

The selection process is stringent. Usually, our partner schools are in charge of the first round of selection – only top students with recommendations who have passed preliminary entry tests may proceed to the next round. After that, they need to pass both a written Ameson exam (portions are in both English and Chinese, emphasis is placed on math skills and language proficiency). The interview process is conducted only in English – it tests language proficiency and also provides the student an opportunity to discuss their career ambitions.
The student life is very colorful at the Ameson institute. We organize various extra-curricular activities. Besides sports and cultural events, there are many student parties and social events. We also host English speaking contests and other forms of games to encourage participation and communication.

Ameson Instructors

Ameson relies on the expertise of its Chinese and foreign teachers to maintain a high-level quality in all pre-university courses. In terms of foreign instructors, their international backgrounds help to create an authentic language environment within a mosaic of cultures.

Specifically, Ameson's Literature and History departments are headed by professional native English teachers, while the rest (natural sciences, economics, etc) are headed by Chinese experts. In both cases, however, all courses are taught primarily in English.
