Jiangsu Provincial Changhzhou High School

Jiangsu Provincial Changzhou Senior Middle School was first established on 15 November 1907, Mr. Han Tao currently holds the post of principal. Over the past century, the school has gradually formed its own characteristics of "high starting point, strict requirements, favourable academic atmosphere, solid foundation, and strong capability" on the part of the students. Our school spirit is: "Be precise, lively, and creative". Our academic atmosphere is: "Be eager to learn, be practical and realistic, and be enterprising". Our teaching ethics are: "Be diligent, be profound, and be fond of students".

The school has long been known in China for its quality education and quality teaching. Every year, the percentage of students who passed the national entrance examination is 95%, and the percentage of students who have actually been enrolled in key universities retains some 90%. More than 20 students every year win the national first prizes in Jiangsu Venue of the National School Subjects Contests for Middle School Students. Yun Zhiwei, a student in this school, won the gold medal in the 41 International Mathematics Olympic Contest for Middle School Students for his full score in the contest. Li Yuan, another student in the school, won the bronze medal in the International Informatics Olympic Contest for Middle School Students.

Quite a few celebrities in modern China have been produced in the school, and the majority of the celebrities who spent their middle school life in Changzhou were or are alumni or alumnae of this school. The alumni list includes Qu Qiubai and Zhang Tailei (the two early leaders of the Communist Party of China), Qian Mu (a renowned scholar of Sinology in Mainland and Taiwan), the two brothers Liu Bannong (a man of letters) and Liu Tianhua (a musician), Shuxiang (a distinguished linguist). The list should also include some academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science (such as Pan Shu, Wu Rukang, Shi Shaoxi, Sheng Jinzhang, Wang Zhijiang, and Xu Zhizhan) and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (such as Xu Mingqiu, Hou Yunde, and Liu Baili). Among the school alumni, some were or still are top leaders of well-known universities in China: Pan Shu, President of Nanjing University, Shi Shaoxi, President of Tianjin University, Hu Dongcheng, Vice-president of Tsinghua (Qinghua) University, Jiang Deming, President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Yang Yuqin, Deputy-secretary of CPC Tianjin University Committee, Shen Keqi, Vice-president of Beijing University, Li Shouheng, Vice-president of Zhejiang University, Xu Aoao, Vice-president of Nanjing University. Those alumni who held or still hold leading ministerial or provincial positions are Tao Lujia, Tao Xijin, Jiang Zhuping, Chu Chuanheng, Shen Liechu, Zhao Yundong and so on.
